RESTORE ACT: big opportunities for marine construction
The largest marine construction public works program in Florida's history is underway.
In the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, between $1 to $5 BILLION is coming to Florida from penalties and legal settlements being paid by the companies responsible for the disaster.
23 Florida counties will each receive millions -- in some cases hundreds of millions -- to build, refurbish and restore marine resources.
Because we have been closely participating in this elaborate and complicated process from the beginning, MCIA members will be the first in the industry to learn about projects and bid opportunities.
Act now to JOIN MCIA to learn about project opportunities in your area, how the process works, and the types of services and skills that will help your firm make the most of this opportunity.
RESTORE Facts
RESTORE is an acronym for a Congressional bill passed in 2012 that funnels 80% of civil fines and penalties from the Deepwater Horizon spill to the five Gulf Coast states, with some of the expected money to be dispursed by a "Council" comprised of several Federal agencies and the five states. In Florida, 23 Gulf Coast counties directly manage most of the funding, a system unique to our state.
RESTORE isn't the only "pot of money" out there. We are tracking other funding, too, some of which is ready to be bid!
RESTORE money will flow into Florida for years to come.
How MCIA Will Help
There will be 23 county local councils, a state consortium and a federal council, all meeting at least once and usually more often, each month. Our job at MCIA is to participate in these meetings so MCIA members don't have to. As plans and projects are proposed, you will be the first to know. Our goal is that when bids are let, you will already know about the potential project.
